Concealer (AKA ‘hide all my imperfections please cream’) is a staple for everyone’s makeup bag. Even if you have perfect skin (congrats), you may have the occasional dark circle around your eye.
If you, like me, are less perfect, you may have dark circles, puffiness, and the odd spot to cover up.
There is no guilt here, and for good measure, every concealer on this list is vegan, so no animal products or by products are used. But cutting to the chase, I won’t conceal the list any longer…

Il Makiage – ‘F*ck I’m Flawless’
Best colour match
The name says it all really! But from my experience, I love Il Makiage products.
This concealer (like the foundation) feels so light when you put it on, but it has powerful coverage, and is buildable.
Il Makiage recognise what most makeup companies don’t: there are lots of skin colours out there! Their shade range of 30 is the most impressive around. It’s more expensive than a lot of other products, but the quality absolutely matches the price.

e.l.f. Camo Concealer
Best value concealer
This concealer does everything you’d want it to, and only costs a fiver. It’s pretty thick, so doesn’t need multiple layers.
e.l.f. also have a really good shade finder, where you can tell them what concealer (or even foundation) you currently use and they’ll tell you your shade.
A must for your beauty bag!

3INA – ‘The 24H Concealer’
Best Long Lasting Concealer
3INA have a few concealers in the range, but I picked this one as it stays put longer than the rest.
It feels silky and lightweight to apply but it gives really strong coverage – can be used on the eye area as well as to even out skin tone.

be at one – ‘Be Bright’
Best concealer for Brightening
If you thought be at one was a 2-4-1 cocktail bar, you’d be right.
But there is also a lovely cruelty free beauty brand with the same name (with no affiliation to overpriced cocktails).
This concealer covers everything, but also gives a lovely brightness. It’s made with argon oil, aloe vera and avocado oil – which are all soothing and moisturising for the delicate skin around your eyes.

Urban Decay – ‘Naked Skin – Colour Correcting Fluid’
Best concealer for Evening Out Skin Tones
There are six products in this range: green, peach, pink, lavender, yellow and deep peach.
Each is suited to a base skin tone and acts as a colour corrector:
- The green works well to combat red skin tones/spots.
- The pink covers dark circles for fair skin tones.
- Whereas the peach covers dark circles on darker skin tones.
I’ve used the green, and can confirm it’s light, smooth and works well to correct redness, and can be added to foundation!

Best luxury buy
Celebrity endorsements are pretty big in the beauty industry, and ICONIC London have nabbed a good one.
Their Seamless concealer is worn by none other than Khloe Kardashian!
But, back to the real world. This is a lovely concealer – expensive, but excellent quality. Extremely effective, but very lightweight.

TROPIC ‘ILLUMA light-diffusing concealer’
Best nourishing concealer
If you’re keen to try new things, then a brand I recommend is TROPIC.
They are a highly ethical brand, with beautifully packaged makeup and skincare products.
This concealer is award winning and doesn’t just act as a cover up, it also works to nourish skin. Ingredients include: vitamin E and collagen-boosting algae.

Wrapping Up – The 7 Best Cruelty Free Concealers
Ironically enough, some companies really conceal their policies on animal testing. While many say they are against it, they still allow their products to be tested on animals by third parties. On this list, all the concealers are from companies which are entirely cruelty free. All concealers on this list are also vegan too!
How Do We Create This List
Through a lot of product testing and product analysis, but to be more specific, all products featured in our list had to be:
– Cruelty free, either certified by PETA or via a cruelty free guarantee
– Vegan. While not all the brands are vegan, all the products featured here are
– Used by me. I have used them all so I can give some personal insight, rather than just regurgitating marketing materials from the brands themselves
– Good. All the products featured come recommended.
FAQs
The brands that produce cruelty free concealers include: Superdrug (own brand), Barry M, 3INA, Charlotte Tilbury, bareMinerals, e.l.f., Nyx, Il Makiage, The Body Shop, Urban Decay, BPerfect, TROPIC, ICONIC London and Beauty Pie. There are plenty of other brands, but these are some of our favourites.
Concealer brands that are not cruelty free include: La Roche Posay, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Maybelline, NARS, Bobbi Brown, Benefit, Bourjois, Rimmel and Elizabeth Arden. This list is in no way exhaustive, these are just some of the bigger/more popular brands we would recommend avoiding.
As of 2017 NARS can no longer be considered cruelty-free. Since then NARS has been complicit in animal testing in countries where post market testing could be required by law.
As MAC is a company complicit in animal testing in countries where it can be required by law, we cannot consider its concealer to be either cruelty-free or vegan.
Concealer is basically a cover up, designed to reduce lines, brighten up tired features or reduce the appearance of spots. It can also work as a brightener, especially around the eye area.
