Best Vegan & Cruelty Free Grooming Products for Men in 2021

  • This post may contain affiliate links which - at no cost to you - may generate a small fee for us. It helps us research and review products more effectively

Update, November 2021: We have removed Seven Potions from our cruelty-free products list. This is because we found certain shaving brushes were made using boar hair, which goes against our cruelty-free standards.

Until pretty recently I would’ve described my bathroom as a toilet. Just a toilet. And how wrong I was.

You see, I was misinterpreting the possibilities associated with a bathroom. You only get out what you put into it. If your bathroom is sparsely populated with toilet roll, a toothbrush and shower gel, there’s a pretty low ceiling to what can be achieved.

But when you open your mind to the world of cruelty free products available to men, your bathroom can take on a form of its own. A living breathing organism that morphs into a little piece of you. A little piece of you with a door lock.

These are the best cruelty free products for men I have used – so there aren’t loads of products, but as I try more I will be able to expand and improve the page. But it’s more important to us we have tried everything.

Best Cruelty Free Toiletries for Men

We do have a fully comprehensive guide to cruelty-free shaving guide for men, but these are my favourite few.

Winston Shave Set

Harry’s Winston Shave Set

Harry’s Winston Shave Set is a beautifully luxurious looking kit.

Complete with shaving gel, a polished chrome razor (feel the weight on that), a travel cover and three blade cartridges it’s a pretty unique looking razor.

And as you can get it engraved, a super gift for someone.

Harry’s Shave and Shower Travel Kit

And their Shave and Shower Travel Kit is fantastic value.

It comes with all the shaving essentials – a washbag, travel cover, face wash, razor, shampoo and conditioner and travel gel – all of which are travel size.

Whilst I’m aware travel sets are a little meaningless in 2021 (sorry), I think it’s safe to assume we will be allowed to fly somewhere again someday.

As such you’ll need a ready made solution because you won’t remember how airports work.

And this is it!

Rockface Hydrating Shave Gel

Rockface Hydrating Shave Gel is a brilliant moisturising, cruelty-free gel designed for a friction-free shave.

Previously shave gels have been packed full of chemicals.

So it’s pleasing to see vegan, cruelty-free options that are paraben-free and exceptional quality.

Bulldog’s Bamboo Razor

Finally Bulldog’s Bamboo Razor is just an excellent, reusable shaving option.

Whilst I absolutely cannot get behind their attempt at branding this product (the tagline is check it, less plastic & ting – awful).

Anything you can do to reduce your plastic consumption is a step in the right direction.

We’d recommend stocking up on some spare blades and a razor stand too.

Battle Green Shampoo & Conditioner Set

Battle Green’s Zero Waste Shampoo Set is a travel and bathroom essential in our house.

The comb in particular has really revolutionised the way my hair no longer feels greasy post conditioning. Something which I always felt was my cross to bear.

It contains:

  • Natural solid shampoo bar (citrus, mint or lavender tea tree)
  • Solid conditioner bar
  • Two travel tins
  • Comb

As an industry, shampoo and haircare is totally dominated by plastic products. And it’s so encouraging to have cruelty-free, plastic-free – even zero waste – alternatives.

  • 50g + 55g
  • Vegan
  • Paraben, sulfate and petrochemical-free
  • 100% Recycled and recyclable

Mancave’s Shower Gel Set

Whilst Mancave’s Shower Gel Set includes both the Sea Salt and Lemon and Oak scents, we love a taster pack.

With 4 signature scents included it’s great value for such quality shower gel. I’m a sucker for anything sea salt based. Anything dessert related springs to mind.

But I’d recommend the taster set so you can try the sea salt, wild mint, lemon and oak and cedarwood for yourself. So rugged!

Neal’s Yard: Invigorating Hair & Body Wash for Men

I am not normally a patron of Neal’s Yard. I’d say it’s a little on the premium side for my taste.

But I was gifted their Invigorating Hair and Body Wash last Christmas and I love it. Grapefruit is bloody terrific in body and hair washing products.

It’s cleansing, revitalising, but gentle.

Sort of like Home Alone or a Snoopy comic strip.

Bulldog’s Original (but updated) Shower Gel

Look, it’s a bit dull, but you always need a good shower gel.

I used to work for a far-too-premium perfume company and there was always a lot of confusing chatter about top notes and base notes. At the time, all over my head.

But Bulldog’s Shower Gel’s citrusy top notes alongside the woody (?) base notes remind me so much of being completely out of my depth at work.

Charming in a way.

Mancave Caffeine Shampoo

Mancave Caffeine Shampoo

I was always a little sceptical of caffeine shampoo. I like coffee sure, but not in my hair.

However, there have been multiple studies that highlight how caffeine can; stimulate hair shaft elongation (oi oi!), creates longer, wider hair roots and can even reduce grey hair.

Aren’t stimulants incredible.

And Mancave’s all-natural, cruelty-free shampoo is packed with shea butter – moisturising properties – and l-arginine – which strengthens individual follicles. Plus it smells fantastic!

Faith in Nature Shampoo Bars

And I was equally sceptical about shampoo bars. But actually the quality of the products

Faith in Nature creates really took me by surprise. The Argan and Shea Bar is my personal favourite.

I knew the environmental benefits were great. The lack of packaging – particularly plastics – for one.

But I thought using a soap-like bar just wouldn’t nourish or clean my hair like I needed it to. Which, on further inspection, is wrong.

And this is part of FiN’s zero waste range. The packaging is 100% recycled and recyclable, which is absolutely perfect for 2021.

Mancave’s Eucalyptus Deodorant

Mancave’s Eucalyptus Deodorant utilises all-natural ingredients – coconut oil, eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil and lemon oil – to moisturise the skin and provide an uplifting, all-natural anti-bacterial agent against odour without the classic deodorant burn.

I do find that ‘normal’ deodorant burns my armpits. And I just stuck with it for a while because I didn’t think there were many alternatives that work.

And then I read that you need to stick with them. It’s normal to perspire more than usual when you switch from non-natural deodorant.

Arguably the most natural deodorant on the list, Procoals Natural Deodorant Stick is an all-natural, anti-irritant deodorant designed for those with sensitive skin.

An all-natural odour-neutraliser with completely recyclable packaging.

Salt of the Earth – Pure Armour

Salt of the Earth’s Pure Armour is a brilliant, cruelty-free, vegan deodorant. Vetiver and citrus is quite a unique combination.

One that really works.

Phew!

And – always the best part – no white marks!

The Natural Deodorant Co – Deodorant Balm

Natural Deodorant Co’s Deodorant Balm is another all-natural, chemical-free deodorant. But in balm form. Which is very new to us too.

The balm format has such a soothing texture. And – when applied to your skin – almost melts away.

Made from an odour-controlling blend of magnesium oxide and sodium bicarbonate.

And whilst the coconut scent is peculiar for deodorant, it’s a really beautiful product.

Everyman Jack’s Cedarwood Deodorant is just about everything free. Paraben-free, sulfate-free, SLS-free, aluminium-free, dye-free… An endless list of frees.

And I don’t know why but I’ve always loved cedarwood. It’s a musky, woody scent that smells overwhelmingly masculine.

Pathetic I know. But you need to cling onto something.

Mancave’s Blackspice Beard Set

Look, small disclaimer, I grow a terrible beard. But a terrible beard is a beard nonetheless and even woeful facial hair needs due care and attention.

And Mancave’s Blackspice Beard Set is, self-titled ‘The perfect trio to cleanse and style your beard.’

And I would agree. It smells a lot like a certain Molton Brown product that we won’t name.

The pack comes complete with beard wash, oil and control. Designed to help reduce patchy areas (tick) and reduce itching.

Waken Alcohol-Free Spearmint Mouthwash

Ok so not strictly a male grooming product, but aren’t you also tired of mouthwash from big, almost always cruel brands?

I am. Or was. Whatever. And a largely inconsequential relative bought me some Waken Mouthwash as a present – and possibly a hint.

And I was converted. It’s gentle, alcohol-free and doesn’t irritate my gums at all. Highly recommended.

Truthbrush Starter Set

Truthbrush Starter Set

As bamboo grows in natural environments it doesn’t require lengthy, polluting production processes. And it’s cheap – both to produce and buy. With a much lower carbon footprint than it’s plastic contemporaries.

So any products where bamboo has replaced plastic is OK by us.

Particularly when these industries – like oral hygiene – are so plastic dominant.

And the Truthbrush Starter Set is an award-winning, fully recyclable and carbon neutral alternative to brushing your teeth you should invest in.

Neal’s Yard Skincare Collection for Men

As a man who prefers convenience (and quality) above all, collections are a firm favourite of mine. Particularly Neal’s Yard Men’s Collection.

Complete with a purifying face wash, a close shave cream and a rejuvenating moisturiser, it is perfect for all skin-types that need some due care and attention.

My skin takes a bit of a battering – cycling, football, running, staring at a screen all day – and this certified organic formula that cleanses, invigorates; softens and smoothes.

And the great but about Neal’s Yard is, the more you spend, the more you save.

Mancave’s Intense Hydration Moisturiser

I have recently come round to using moisturisers. As the cold, dry air associated with winter months come in – and as I’ve recently hit 30 – I try to take better care of myself.

Apparently, as we get older, natural oil production decreases. So a once a day application of moisturiser is the least you can do.

And Mancave’s Intense Hydration Moisturiser is a lovely natural product that has helped soothe my cracked skin that stings in the winter.

Bulldog’s Oil Control Moisturiser

Whilst I declared myself a convert to moisturisers a few lines ago I am also, unfortunately, hampered by greasy skin when using a moisturiser too much.

Thankfully, up steps Bulldog’s Oil Control Moisturiser. I actually got this (shock) in a stocking a few years ago – and I think it was a mistake.

But it works just as well as their traditional moisturiser, reducing the greasiness that comes from these products for some of us.

31st State Spot Control Gel

Spots are for children. Or at least they should be. I don’t want to go back to an acne’d stated of youth and neither do you.

And whilst we can’t guarantee that, we can, as adults, buy spot control creams that actually work. And 31st State’s Spot Control Gel works.

I usually pick up some spots after drinking too much or flying.

And it’s always worth having an all-natural, spot protection and prevention solution on hand.

Skin Sapiens Face Cream  is a beautifully packaged vegan facial moisturiser. One that’s packed full of all-natural ingredients including calendula oil – perfect for reducing inflammation, redness and soothing sore, dry skin – which is pretty commonplace.

And – of course – it is a cruelty-free, vegan brand. But also one that supports climate change, giving 1% of its sales to charity.

And as an unscented cream, it’s perfect for both men and women. Just a really quality product.

One that’s perfectly complemented by its gentle oat-based Facial Cleansing Gel counterpart.

Cruelty Free Male Grooming FAQs

1. How do we decide the best cruelty free products for men?

Through a lot of product testing and product analysis. I’ve bought or been (sometimes unwillingly!) gifted a lot of male grooming products. Some awful, some great.

We only feel comfortable recommending from brands we use and trust. So the more we buy, the more we can recommend! But they must be:

Cruelty free. Either certified by PETA or via a cruelty free guarantee
Used by me. I have used them all so I can give some personal insight. I have lived through 30 birthdays and Christmases now, so it makes sense that I’ve waded through a few products and brands
Affordable. We haven’t featured anything truly outrageous – and even if I tried I’m not sure I could ever face the idea of spending a lot
A mix. We have featured a mix of small, independent and large retailers. But, especially right now, we’d prefer to support small businesses and SMEs where possible

Zeen is a next generation WordPress theme. It’s powerful, beautifully designed and comes with everything you need to engage your visitors and increase conversions.
