.Is bareMinerals Eco-Friendly?
To understand if a brand is eco-friendly, we analyse its packaging, air miles, manufacturing and chemical makeup
As beauty brands go, bareMinerals is quite eco-friendly.
From a packaging standpoint, the most recent improvements include:
- Ensuring the product cartons are FSC-certified (and from responsibly managed forests)
- The new makeup bags are made from recycled plastic bottles
- The bottle caps in new skincare ranges are made from PCR (Post Consumer Recycled Plastic)
- And bottles are made from glass instead of plastic
In terms of future improvements, bareMinerals wants to ensure 100% of its packaging will include recycled and/or recyclable materials by 2026.
This is a little slow when compared to other brands and given a number of brands already have this standard in place, bareMinerals still has work to do.
Another environmental positive is the brand’s stance on chemicals. Or lack of. Chemicals in cosmetic products have a nasty habit of seeping into our oceans.
- Pollutants in sunscreen wash directly off into the water causing irrevocable reef damage. And plastic microbeads can exist in the oceans for literally thousands of years without breaking down.
- These microbeads act as a magnet to other pollutants, which are then eaten by a variety of sea-life, causing deformities, reproductive issues and death.
So brands that are largely free-from is a real positive.
Is bareMinerals a Clean Beauty Brand?
Yes by-and-large bareMienrals is a clean beauty brand. You can learn more about its stance on clean beauty here.
The products are all free-from a host of unnecessary preservatives and chemicals including:
- Parabens
- Phthalates
- Triclosan
- Formaldehyde
- Chemical sunscreens
- Microbeads
- Coal tar – which we’ve never even heard of, but is used to treat flaky or dry skin conditions and can have particularly nasty side-effects like irritation, rashes and a burning sensation
And as bareMinerals is also certified cruelty-free, the overwhelming majority of the ingredients are vegan, we would class the brand as clean.
