Avon is neither officially cruelty-free or a vegan brand. It still sells products in markets where animal testing can be mandated by law and could be complicit in either testing products or ingredients on animals personally, or by working with suppliers who do.
Is Avon Cruelty-Free?
Avon is not cruelty-free!
Whilst Avon claims it isn’t complicit in animal testing, it acknowledges that when regulatory bodies require animal testing for products to enter the market, the brand allows it to happen.
Whilst Avon has been added to PETA’s working for regulatory change list, its cruelty-free status has not been made official.

Is Avon sold in China?
Yes Avon still sells products in mainland China.
In recent times Avon have claimed that the brand has stopped testing its ingredients on animals in the Chinese market. But these claims haven’t been substantiated by any truly verifiable bodies. On top of this, Avon’s cruelty-free supplier accreditation process
Whilst we cannot now claim that countries involved in selling products in China can be cruelty-free, China’s animal testing policy is no longer as black and white is it seemed.
Is Avon Vegan?
Avon is not a vegan brand. Whilst it has some products that are free-from animal byproducts, the brand is not free-from animal ingredients.
And until it is verified cruelty-free, it cannot be considered truly vegan.
Avon’s Animal Testing Statement
In light of the brand’s attempt at becoming cruelty-free – which includes working with suppliers who have been confirmed as cruelty-free – an Avon spokesperson said:
“Avon will focus on working with suppliers on their animal testing policies for ingredients used in Avon’s products. Meanwhile Avon will continue to work with its partners to push for regulatory change and greater acceptance of alternatives to animal testing.”

Avon is owned by Natura & Co. Natura & Co is a Brazilian global personal care cosmetics group headquartered in São Paulo.
The parent company also owns cruelty-free stalwarts The Body Shop and Aesop.
No Avon isn’t certified cruelty-free by any organisations right now.
However PETA’s database states that Avon is ‘working towards regulatory changes to reduce the number of animals used for testing.’
So in the future Avon could be a cruelty-free brand.
No Avon isn’t Leaping Bunny certified but appears to be working towards cruelty-free status.
No Avon is not palm-oil free as some of its products utilise palm oil based derivatives.
However all the brand’s a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and the Action for Sustainable Derivatives (ASD).
No Avon isn’t organic as its ingredient list – albeit quite natural – doesn’t qualify the products as truly organic.
Avon is not truly paraben-free. Since 2006 the brand made the decision to develop new products without certain parabens.
But there are still products developed that contain these preservatives.
