NARS is, unfortunately, no longer cruelty-free. It now sells products in markets where animal testing can be mandated by law. And it is also neither vegan nor palm oil free.

Is NARS Cruelty-Free?

NARS is no longer cruelty-free.

NARS used to be a monthly staple for the cruelty-free shopper. That is until it decided to start selling in the Chinese market where animal testing on products or ingredients can be mandated by law.

NARS Ethical Overview

NARS Products
  • No NARS isn’t cruelty-free
  • Yes NARS sells products in China
  • NARS is not vegan
  • NARS is vegetarian, but they do use lanolin which may not be suitable for everyone

Is NARS sold in China?

Yes unfortunately NARS is now sold in China.

This unfortunately means its cruelty-free status has been revoked as the company could be complicit with pre or post-market animal testing.

Whilst we cannot now claim that countries involved in selling products in China can be cruelty-free, China’s animal testing policy is no longer as black and white is it seemed.

What is NARS’ Official Stance on Animal Testing?

“NARS does not test on animals nor do we ask others to test on our behalf, except where required by law.

NARS is actively working with industry and other partners to eliminate animal testing globally and is committed to the development and acceptance of alternative methods. We are equally dedicated to the health and safety of our consumers ensuring we meet the highest in quality standards.

We remain committed to bringing our vision of beauty and artistry to more fans around the globe, as part of our long-held commitment to empower women everywhere.”

Essentially NARS states that it doesn’t test on animals – unless it is required to by law. Backing this statement up with claims about minimising animal testing and prioritising alternatives to animal testing
