Hello! We are Adelle and Harry, and together we created Red Orange Peach.
In trying to live a cruelty free life, we realised it’s actually quite hard to find skincare, makeup, and even household products that haven’t been tested on animals. A lot of the big brands still test, and sometimes it’s hard to break a cycle of buying their products.
Animal testing for cosmetic purposes has been illegal in the UK since the 90s, and the EU brought in a similar act in 2013. This means products made in the UK/EU are cruelty free, however that doesn’t mean all products sold here are cruelty free. We found there wasn’t an intuitive way to search for products from companies that don’t test on animals…
…So we built Red Orange Peach! Our site has recommendations by:
- Product type: everything from best cruelty free concealers to mouthwashes
- Ethical choices: you can search for vegan products, carbon neutral businesses or palm-oil free companies and lots more
We are also building a comprehensive list of all cosmetic companies to clearly answer whether or not they are cruelty free. We hope that you will find some new brands, and some kinder alternatives to the norm.
Where you come in…
Whether or not you’re vegan, vegetarian or a meat eater (we’re not here to judge), there is really no logical reason to want your beauty, skincare or household products to be tested on animals. But thousands are. In some places, it’s even law. And the tests aren’t pleasant – thousands of animals are tortured daily for cosmetic purposes. So, if you’re like us, and think the pain to that animal just isn’t worth it for a lipstick, then you’re in the right place.
There are hundreds of incredible cruelty free companies out there. Some big, some small, some that are zero waste, and some that give away a large chunk of profit to charity. We hope we help you find your next favourite brand, and in turn, say no to companies that continue to test on animals! Thank you for visiting our site, and supporting kindness.
The founders
We are Adelle and Harry. We live in London with our rescue cat Poppy and created Red Orange Peach in the bizarre year that was 2020. Our day jobs are in marketing, but in our spare time we put our skills to good use (this website).
Product claims and testing
If we recommend a product as being cruelty free, it has to hit certain criteria. The main indicator is if a company is part of the ‘Leaping Bunny’ scheme, or listed as cruelty free by PETA. However, not all companies get this accreditation, and sometimes the accreditation can be out of date.
We check suppliers monthly, and contact them directly if there are any ‘grey areas’. Where possible we personally test the products we recommend. This has been a fun (and expensive) process, but we hope our recommendations are that much better for it.
PS. Just in case you’re wondering… We can’t remember why we picked the name Red Orange Peach, but we hope you agree that it has a nice ring to it!
PPS. We have plans to make this site even bigger. If you have any suggestions of what we should feature – let us know!
