Is Issey Miyake sold in China?
Yes Issey Miyake sells products in mainland China. The brand inherits Shiseido’s policy on selling products in China.
And selling imported cosmetics in China still puts products at risk of being tested on animals in pre or post market.
Whilst we cannot now claim that countries involved in selling products in China can be cruelty-free, China’s animal testing policy is no longer as black and white is it seemed.
Is Issey Miyake Vegan?
Issey Miyake is not a vegan brand.
Whilst certain perfumes are free-from animal byproducts, multiple products contain non-vegan ingredients – beeswax and a type of musk that gives sillage to perfumes. Sillage comes from the French word for ‘wake’ and – in perfume terms – refers to the trail created by perfume when its worn on the skin.
Whilst there are synthetic or plant-based musks available, the musk Issey Miyake uses is not vegan. This means it is likely to come from a male deer or the Civet Cat.

Some of Issey Miyake’s packaging is recyclable. 80% of the paper used in its packaging is FSC certified and a small amount of glass – 10% – of the glass used in its bottles is made from PCR glass. And 80%-90% recycled plastic is used in promotional objects such as textile accessories. Which leaves a lot of room for improvement.
