Yes Il Makiage is completely cruelty-free. PETA-certified by the beauty without bunnies scheme. You can even view its official certification here.
So just to be clear: Il Makiage doesn’t test products or ingredients on animals. Nor does it work with suppliers that test on its behalf. Il Makiage does also have a welcome code you can use as a new customer – see below.
Is Il Makiage Vegan?
Il Makiage is not a completely vegan brand although it does have a substantial vegan range.
Many of the core products are vegan (like the foundation). However, items like the lipsticks contain beeswax. Il Makiage can provide a list of all vegan items, or you can check the ingredients on the website before purchasing.
Is Il Makiage a Clean Beauty Brand?
This is a fairly vague area. While Il Makiage doesn’t have ‘nasty’ ingredients, it’s not necessarily clean. It’s not organic and some products contain silicone.
Is Il Makiage Good?
It’s in our top makeup brands list, so of course it’s good. Although, I would go out on a limb and say Il Makiage is one of the best newcomers to the makeup market.
The product quality is excellent and it really caters to a wide range of people. Whatever your skin tone, texture or sensitivity.
It could afford to be a little more transparent around sustainability and environmental initiatives. For example, there’s limited information around its use of palm oil and packaging standards.
But the products are excellent and it has been a cruelty-free since its inception. So we love it!

Il Makiage Hero Product
With over 50 shades in the range, the Woke Up Like This foundation is perfect for all skin types, tones and textures. At £36 it is definitely a premium product, but well-worth the money.
The vegan, paraben and cruelty-free formula is perfect for evening out your skin tone. Even suitable if you suffer from acne.
And it’s almost plastic-free! Only the cap and glass to go.
What Else Do We Love About Il Makiage?
While it is a premium brand it’s really inclusive. The products are for everyone and brands as popular as Il Makiage tend to be owned by huge conglomerates. Whereas it’s still largely owned by the founder, which gives the brand more freedom.
Interestingly it is also one of the most reviwed brands we have ever come across – almost 50,000 reviews on trustpilot – with an average rating of 4.6*.
